Julie Wong's Team in Training PledgePage!
Dear Family and Friends,
I have had such a bounty of blessings in the past few years: New York, business school, old friends, new friends, independence, and now a job I love. It’s time to do something to give back for all I’ve been given. On April 25th, I will run my very first marathon in New Jersey as a proud (although wheezing, I’m sure!) member of Team in Training (TNT). TNT is an inspiring group of people who help train people like me to meet our personal challenges and raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I have committed to raise $2,100 AND run all 26.2 miles and I need your help! Before I started Team in Training, I did not know that much about these cancers or anyone who has been afflicted. Every day, nearly 300 people are diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, or myeloma. Leukemia kills more children between the ages of two and fourteen than any other disease, and the number of afflicted adults is ten times that of children. Research is the only way to find a cure. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society plays a critical role in funding research towards curing blood-related cancers. The money Team in Training raises also goes towards improving the quality of life of patients and their families. Our fundraising goal for the 2004 Team in Training season is $87 million. You'll be pleased to know that the Leukemia Society operates with slim overhead: nearly 80% of the monies I raise goes directly to research and families. My team is running the New Jersey Marathon on April 25, 2004 in honor of Dina Feivelson and Jeremy Hamblin, two TNT honorees, who are currently battling (and winning!) the fight against lymphoma and leukemia, respectively. I would also like to honor the mothers of two classmates of mine from Columbia Business School who are currently battling Lymphoma, Ronnie Fein and Maria Elena Carrillo. Please support me in this important effort. My goal (besides making it through the marathon) is to raise $2,100 by March 15th (but I can accept donations until April 1st). Donations (check, cash, or credit card) can be made by using the enclosed donation form and sent back to me in the addressed and stamped envelopes provided. All donations are 100% tax deductible. Also, TNT accepts matching corporate gift programs, so please check if your company has one. My best wishes for a happy and healthy new year! Julie |
